Fact is, the list is practically just examples. That list haven't been updated for ages and it does not follow my current vocabulary of swear words. And when this was written, I didn't know that many and which that weren't or not. It's up to individual networks to choose what's "bad words" nowadays and frankly, censorship is silly anyway. We provide the feature for people who might actually need it and adjust it properly. I have nothing against: gays, lesbians, aliens, vulcans, cardassians, bajorans, jedis, ferengi, muslims, freebsd coders, females, males, giraffes, vodka, cows, paper, trees and furry little animals (even though i love torturing them) and many other imaginary friends. Introducing political correctness into an IRCd is silly for the obvious reason that it's a tool for people to actually make a proper IRC server in their own spirit and if people choose to leave this bit, so be it. The idea of badwords.* is to show examples on how to do it, and if people want to set their mode to +G (as they actually have a voluntary choice!), they can. We don't try to force people to censor this way. And frankly, even though 'pussy' is on the bad word list, I love it. |
