Summary | 0002845: Auditorium channel mode u
Description | We have a problem with this channel mode. Some weirdoes find this mode really useful to fool users or in a current case use it to hide a botnet. For our mirc users (including me ;)) this is a bit of a problem as the nicklist is done over the functions this mode actually hides. Entering a mode u channel shows an empty nicklist if no OPs or other status people are present. Is there any way to completely disable this mode, or to put it differently, what is the actual sense of this chan mode? Best regards, Monk

The mode works properly - that is what it does: hides non-ops Use set::restrict-channelmodes |
i think this channel mode should be modified, it should not hide the users from ircops as like he said, it can be used to hide botnets (even from ircops), because unless u are +h or higher in a channel with +u, even ircops can't see regular users with /names |
So...
Use set::restrict-channelmodes
Thanks a lot for the tip with set::restrict-channelmodes. Didn't think of this feature. Anyhow I also think that this chanmode is more prone to misuse than does anything good. Surely nothing of top prio but maybe a little rework of this feature serves Unreal well. Best regards, Monk |

I don't know about that, have you ever tried to hold a conference with a large number of users, and keep sane sendqs? Try joining a channel with 700+ users, and watch the fun. Simple solution: /mode #channel +uNb ~q:*!*@* (you can't use +m, as for some insane reason - +mu allows all to talk through +m..) |
Simple solution: /mode #channel +uNb ~q:*!*@* (you can't use +m, as for some insane reason - +mu allows all to talk through +m..)
If I didn't know better... I'd say that's a bug in itself; +mu shouldn't allow everyone to talk through/override +m :S... |
Yes it should. Only ops see the talking through +mu. This allows them to see who might have a good question, if they are doing a question and answer session, in which case they could voice that person, or paste the question back. |
Hint: +b IRC!*@* If you don't want the +mu stuff :) . |
