Summary | 0006156: GDPR for registering
Description | Hello! As you all know, GDPR is mandatory for all websites, systems that stores user informations such as realname, email, passwords and other kind of information. I think it is necessary also for unreal6 to have this kind of system that must notice user at least at the same time when it sends the confirmation code if he is agree with the rules of the comunity or the use of the irc daemon. https://gdpr-info.eu/ From what i have seen since the unreal 3.2 there is no information about the protection of our personal information.

hiya! sorry for the silly question, but what confirmation code do you mean? I think most of this would be down to the admin using the software to put their GDPR notice in place, but I do think it'd be good to have some functionality to aid in showing this =] |

UnrealIRCd by itself doesn't really store any user data except in logs. Admins would need to put a notice about GDPR in the MOTD or link to a privacy policy web page. I'm also as confused as @Valware by this "confirmation code". If you mean when you register your nickname, that is done with a services package and is nothing to do with UnrealIRCd. If you mean the handshake between your client and an UnrealIRCd server, there would need to be an RFC created and a standard agreed. |

I agree with the others: you can put the information in the MOTD, or better yet.. put a link there to the privacy policy and/or privacy statement. Just like how a website has it somewhere in the footer, usually. The Message Of The Day (MOTD) has been in use for over 30 years to communicate rules and policies on IRC so it is like /the/ standard way to communicate such things, for the GDPR too. Even before they connect, users can always inform themselves by going to the website of the IRC network. Just like one could inform themselves before sending an email to an organization. |
