| Summary | 0001024: Suggestion: Channel Mode To Mask / Transform Quit Msgs | ||||
| Description | Hey. Recently our network switched to UnrealIRCD 3.2 Beta 16 from PTLink. A lot of our users had the +q channel mode in place when we were running PTLink. Under that IRCD, that mode would hide all quit msgs, turning them into a channel part with a msg of +q. Since our switch over, a number of users have complained that such a mode doesn't exist in Unreal, and I tend to agree with them. +q and +Q are taken in Unreal, but perhaps another letter could be assigned, and this feature implemented. It really helps to cut down on quit msg spam and lameness in large channels. -PJ irc.dynamix.com | ||||

Why is that useful? Unreal already has methods to stop quit message spam. I don't really like the idea of translating QUIT into PART because it screws up things like !seen scripts, and it can also be confusing, you don't assume that PART implies that the user has just disconnected from IRC. |
