Summary0001288: Webtvs & CTCPS in IRC wars.
Descriptionsome IRC networks that are in oepration have webtv users, due to the lack of webtv ablities its became clear so far that webtvs can not block out ctcps. IRCs are suffering from this as mIRC scripts are being made to VERSION them, and if the reply is a webtv, they simply add the nickname to " @webtv.net " and store it, as a result, users are being targetted for spam and IRCs are losing users as people continuely do it.
Steps To ReproduceJoin any irc server that has webtv users, version them, if they reply " Web tv " add the nickname to @webtv.net
and you have that persons email address.
Additional InformationI would hope ( althou not 100% sure, that a Umode set on connect ) to ALL users can be set, and ONLY remove by IRCOPs
This Umode would Block Out CTCP requests. i don`t know if this is possible but please someone help answer. Thank you

Maybe an anti-ctcp usermode, besides it shouldn't filter ACTION of course, maybe it shouldn't filter DCC too.
Also, you would have to filter in channel too I guess, that takes some extra CPU.
And about only opers could remove it, that's just stupid IMO.. why not let them choose? Anyway, you could add it in set::restrict-usermodes and then they can't remove it ;).

I think the channel filter would be under channel mode C, otherwise the Usermode would catch any private ctcp requests.

That would be misleading.. one could simply do a /ctcp #chan VERSION etc. I don't like "half-security" things :p. [Sure, you could try to make sure that every channel is +C but that's flawed]

yes, but then again the channel mode C is more services related, it would be up to the server runners / owners / admins etc to be sure that services sets mode +C as deafault mode ( like +r ). Another thing that concersn me is, if the ctcp Usermode was added, it will affect the ping from the server ( as they wouldnt reply ) unless of course a filter was added so the server would always get a reply?

server pings are not ctcp pings :p.

ah okies, ( i burned my supper lol ) ack, im not long up, i think i left my brain in bed :O i really hope to see the Usermode be able to work, it would actually be able to take down the fact that some lame flood types use ctcps, would be a gr8 thing :)

Hmm.. just to let you know, I don't think I'll do this in the next X (3.. 4) weeks or so... got lots of other stuff to do too...

Seeing as how you are now the third person I've seen ask for such a mode, I'll work on it when I get the chance.

Added in .1950. You can disable ctcps by setting umode +T
