| Summary | 0001639: [win32] Massive CPU usage | ||||
| Description | At irregular intervals Unreal kicks of Helpservice to 100% cpu usage. This is interrupting normal usage of the machine and making unreal dropping connections. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Install Unreal and keep it running | ||||
| Additional Information | MS has an article about this problem when installing malformed third party applications. I have followed their steps to correct this, but it keeps reoccuring on all 3 of my servers. I have removed Unreal and then the problem is gone. When reinstalling Unreal the problem reoccurs. This is tested on 3 servers and all have the same problem. | ||||

- Did you have this before? (with other releases) - Do you run unrealircd as a service or in console mode? - How many users (local & global) do you have? - After how much time does it happen? (and how easy would it for us to reproduce) - So first it uses almost no cpu, and after some time suddenly 100% - is the ircd still responsive (can users connect, can they talk, join chans, etc) or is everything stalled? Thanks. |

oh and what is Helpservice / what do you mean with "kicks of Helpservice"? :p |

I have tried with 3.2 Beta 19 and up same problem with all. It is installed as service It is Local 200-600 users - Global 600 - 800 users It is not a set time before this occurs, so it is hard to say what the triggering factor is. regular CPU usage 4-12% until it sudddenly triggers helpservice (and helpservice takes 100% CPU. Does not occur when unreal is removed) IRCD is responsive in the manner people can still talk, but it starts dropping users and kills off links (especially services). Helpservice is the MS builtin Helpsvc.exe - Note! MS Has some info on this but it keeps referring to malformed code in third party software. And the problem is totally gone if i remove Unreal. |

If you run Unreal in non-service mode, does the same problem occur? cd C:\unreal\directory unreal stop unreal uninstall wircd.exe |
Testing it as console app, and then it does not occur |
What was the FAQ you found on MS's site about this? |
Any update / more info on this? |

haven't heard any other complaints about this. anyway, without info we cannot do anything, seeing the request for info was 1.5 years ago and no reply was received, it seems this can be closed... |
