This is, you will find, by design. Why should a person not on a the channel be able to see the ban or exemption list? It makes it easier for them to easily ban evade. |
This is the first (and only) IRCd that I have come across that behaves in such a way. It may make things easier for people to evade, but the people who are banned, but shouldn't be (like: an op) can tell another Op which address is matching theirs. (I know services do this, but that is one thing that I don't prefer have services do. It makes war channels alot easier to make that way, same thing with the chanserv invite command.) |
mmm... But if you are an op, you should just be able to add +e for yourself anyhow. So the ban would be ineffective. I don't see the point of this. |

I think he means if you're a ChanOp (AOP in ChanServ or what ever else), not an IRCop (and not all IRCops can /samode or have OperOverride). As mentioned, you can just ask ChanServ to invite you. A ChanOp or U-Line'd INVITE in your hand is usually enough to join through a ban. And if you're an AOP, you'll have access to ChanServ INVITE, and since ChanServ ops you (which implies voice), the ban no longer matters to you. |
erm, 1) Chanserv has (should have) an UNBAN command, which removes all bans on the user, thus there no need to contact a channel op.. 2) Invite is ment for +i and +k and +l modes, not to override a ban 3) an op should be remove any bans on you anyway as your/they have ops for a reason 4) the ban must be pretty broad to affect a OP like " *!mask@* or " *!*@*isp.com " in which case they should have added a +e for the present ops within the room, I agree on w00t, i dont see a reason on this, |
Actually: A reversal. Normal users _shouldnt_ be able to see bans. But +oO etc should be able to? Perhaps just +a? You know to assist with channel takeovers, etc. |
