| Summary | 0001699: The /rehash command with -motd does not rehash rules/motd files remotely, also /rules "servername" malfunction | ||||
| Description | When connected to a server, say "A.X.ORG", you cannot /rehash B.X.ORG -motd, nor /rules B.X.ORG. It simply says "RULES File is missing" even though it in fact is not. You can only rehash/read the /rules file locally, not on other servers, however /helpop ?rehash documentation states otherwise, that this can in fact be done. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | /rules remote.server.name /rehash remote.server.name -rules | ||||
| Additional Information | I would use this to rehash newly updated rules files (script-batch uploaded). I have ran into this issue twice when updating rules, I just didn't report it the first time. | ||||

About the rules (and motd) thingy... for remote rules/motd the default files ircd.rules and ircd.motd are used. This is however a tad weird and undocumented. About rehash, I don't know.. is there a 3rd server in-between (A.X-BLAH-B.X)? coz it works fine at my 5-user-net (A-B). |
ircd.rules? Why do we have rules.motd then? Heh... That might be the problem. Anyway, Yes, there is. From leaf to hub to leaf. |
I can't see anything causing this. It works fine in my tests. I have the exact same setup you have, leaf1 <-> hub <-> leaf2 and the message arrives at the server and is processed just fine. Does it say anything when you do the /rehash? like do you get a message of "YOURNICK is remotely rehashing all MOTDs and RULES" ? Also, since you had the rules file named wrong, are you sure that the /rehash wasn't working and in fact the problem was, there was no new rules file for it to read? |
What about a ./unreal rehash ? I noticed that rehashing that way does not update the motd files. |
That may be true, but it doesn't have anything to do with remote rehash... |
Just like codemastr I cannot confirm this bug. I guess it was the rules.motd thingy then. I've fixed the ./unreal rehash thingy in latest CVS (.2218). |
