Running an IRCd on Win98SE is a VERY bad idea by the way.... |
Unfortunately, I don't have such a machine to test on. And it works fine in 98 (first edition), ME, 2000, and XP. So I don't know what I can really do about it... |
I'll try get w98se set up over the next week or so, and see if i have the same problems. I have MS intellipoint, so we shall see :P |
Yeah, what I really need is Unreal's debug output (the .core file) not Dr. Watson. Our output will tell me the exact line of code it crashed on. |
Got two of them, both empty. wircd.-3543877.core wircd.-639657.core both dated and timed like my bugreport edited on: 2004-05-10 05:52 |

Hum. Raven, can you give us some more specs on your machine? Is it an oldie? or fairly new. I installed on my pmmx 200mhz machine, and nothing happened. If need be, I'll install on my 1000mhz pIII (win98 on that... shudder...) |

Hardware: ASRock K7VT2 Mainboard FSB266 AMD 2000+ CPU (clocked standard) 512 MB DDR 266 MHz RAM 120 GB HDD (as 1 Partition) ATI Radeon 9000 Graphiccard 64 MB DDR RAM (not overclocked either) SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Player Soundcard Task List: Explorer (IE 5.5 patch, unused, kmeleon 0.8.2 as Browser) The Bat 2, german (latest version) Stickies.exe (sticky notes 4 desktop) RAIN 2.0 (latest ver) Motherboard Monitor 5 (newest) Protector Plus (Anti-Vir) Wircd (newest) Lakeserv 6 (newest) Automachron (time synch prog) Intellipoint software Stillimage monitor software, Lvcoms (Logitech webcam soft) Other: DirectX 9 (newest) MSCVRT (MS Virtual C runtimes, latest ver) latest ATI drivers latest VIA 4in1 drivers latest BIOS latest sounddrivers TweakUI Applied w98se patches: 240075DE 243199GER8 260067GER8 269601USA8 273017GER8 4756DE8 823559GER8 Q313829 That's pretty much it, when I'm not sitting on the machine. If I am, add the latest Miranda nightly + Winamp 2.76 + Shoutcast DSP + Shoutcast server app + latest Semagic soft (LJ client soft) + Conquercam soft + latest mIRC + one or the other game. Tested with [lots of apps], with [standard apps], and with [explorer+systray only] states. Machine runs 24/7 with a reboot every 4th day or so, latest windows installation was November 18, 2003. Crash hapens in any state with and without mentioned programs running. Anything else? :/ Some registry tweaks for better RAM and Explorer utilization, but that should do nothing wrong.. |
Ok, I really have no idea. Can you try removing any task not windows related and seeing if taht helps? And perhaps a fresh install of w98 (on its own!) and see if the crash still happens. |
done the first already (mentioned), the second is uh.. not that easily done, I'd say. I'll try failsafe mode running only explorer+systray+wircd without services, just a sec - ok failsafe isn't able to run wircd, so I'm out of ideas now, sry. I'll set up & test on one of my older machines, likely a PIII, in a few days. edited on: 2004-05-16 23:41 |

Uhm, if i remember correctly, WIN98 have memory management problems when used with 512mb ram or more? |
correct, if i would use more than 512 it would have problems, thats why I allow only 511 to be used.. |
The thing that bewilders me here is as to why the core files would be empty o_O I'm no expert on Unreal, indeed, C in general but to me that implies that it didnt even hit Unreal's error functions?? Something interacted to crash it? Dr Watson screwed it around?? /me is at sea. |
It's cause Win9x sucks. It has a tendency to screw up the core files. |
as codemastr said, win98 sucks royal [*censored*]!!! why run win98 on such an advanced machine? get Windows XP lol.... ive never had any scroll problems on mine, and im using: * MS Intellimouse w/ scroll wheel * Windows XP Professional (works on Home Edition too) * 256MB RAM * Always the latest version of unreal :-D |
well, one to laugh for you then: now running unrealircd on P133, 48 ram, w98se ;) no mousewheel on that machine, so no problems with it now.. edited on: 2004-07-15 21:04 |

This won't be fixed. W98 is now an unsupported OS. |
