Summary0001890: Set a user restricted on the whole server
DescriptionIn my opinion it would be great to set all / some users restricted, so they cant change their nicks, kick, etc.

I only found to forbid the nick change on channels, but not on the whole server.

Whoa.

Not good. SHUN also prevents doing anything. Perhaps some other form of SHUN that allows talking...

Why is this useful? Lets see the problems it causes:

1.) I connect to IRC as Slotti. I get a message from nickserv telling me to change my nickname. Unfortunately, I can't. So now NickServ changes my nickname to Guest12345. I want to change it to something normal, but I can't! So I join some channels to chat, but I join channels that have policies against Guest nicks, so I get banned. At this point, I decide to disconnect and reconnect in order to change my nickname.

2.) I am an op in #mychan. Some user joins and begins flooding. I type /kick #mychan theflooder, but I get informed that I'm not allowed to kick people because I'm restricted.

3.) I try to op someone in #mychan, but I am informed that I am not allowed to. I then type /chanserv op #mychan thenick and chanserv ops the user for me.

4.) I am restricted when I connect, so I switch servers and am no longer restricted.

The list goes on and on. I can't see what purpose this could possibly have. You say "it would be great," well why would it be great?

Restricted mode is useless with services anyway. It is better for networks that don't run services.

According to the RFC, restricted users aren't be allowed to get ops anyway, so this situation wouldn't arise. Though having no way to deal with the flooder is a pain. But we have +f, so let the server take care of it (textflood).

Again, restricted mode (per the RFC) means you shouldn't have had ops in the first place. Obviously, if you weren't op'd you wouldn't bother trying to op someone ;P. Also, again, restricted is only useful for networks that don't use services.

>4.) I am restricted when I connect, so I switch servers and am no longer
>restricted.

Restricting connections is good for telling people to use a server closer to them, so in some cases, this is the desired effect. Otherwise, it's the admin's/admins' fault for not setting all the servers correctly ;P .

*edit* on a side note, wasn't this already suggested? */edit*

Well, no one ever responded about why this is needed.
