| Summary | 0001947: IRCd doesn't recognize a disconnected name | ||||
| Description | I'm not completly sure if this is IRCd related, or just serviecs, or even if both are the same, but here is what i experiece: I connectot a server running 3.2b17, na dchat. Leave myself connected for a while, and ping timeout (normal). Then i reconnect (or well acutomatically do so) but don't have an auto-identify command. So i connect, then get killed for not identifying. Then, I reconnect again (now im at the client), and get the nickname in use error. i then try to /nickserv ghost the nickname, but it says it's not in use. I try to /nick, and it says it is in use. It's as if services and the IRCd have two different stances on the status of a nickname. Again, not sure if this is an IRCd bug, or a services bug, or whatever. Just knew the server ran unreal. | ||||
| Steps To Reproduce | Connect to an irc with a nickserv service installed. Register a nickname, and auth as neccesary. Disconnect. Reconnect, but DO NOT auth (the server will then kick you). Reconnect, and you then get a "nickname in use" error. Try to /nickserv ghost <nickname> <pass> the nickname in use. (You can't, it's "not in use") Try to /nick <nickname> back to the name that's "not in use". (You can't, it "IS in use") | ||||
| Additional Information | After a short delay, you will be able to /nick back to the nickname, but apon a quick reconnect, you can't get your name back. | ||||

First of all, you're running a version of Unreal over a year old. We've had 2 more betas, 2 RC releases, and 2 stable releases since then! When reporting a bug *please* report it in the latest version we we've fixed hundreds of bugs since beta17. Anyway, you left out the most crucial piece of information. If you /whois the user in question, what does it say? |

Just try /ns release instead of /ns ghost... Nickserv usually holds the nick for 1 min (or something like that...) |

Yup, the Enforcer stays for about 1 minute (depends on how you configged it), and you can't use /nickserv ghost, because it won't ghost itself (NickServ won't ghost a Services client), so you must use /nickserv release or something, depends on the services, you/the IRC Server was running. That's the reason, why you are able to use the nick after a short while. bearbeitet am: 2004-07-11 18:15 |

KingTomato, can you confirm any of the stuff that was mentioned? Otherwise I'm going to close this since the explanations given seem to make sense. |
