| Description | There are three servers in the /etc/resolv.conf, they are also mentioned in the dns block, but according to vulnscan they are ignored there. The dns works excellent on the shell, and is even approved by the local NIC to serve domain names. According to /quote dns unreal get's a reply, but it still doesn't resolve the names. "Cannot resolv hostname, using IP instead". Still having problems? Or do you have it fixed. If still, are you using IPv6? If so, try using very latest cvs. |

Syzop: still having it, not using IPv6, tried using the latest CVS (because of slePP's patch), didn't work either. Contact me on irc for a debug.log. Codemastr: what's similar, they are both bugs submitted here? ;P |

Oh jail stuff.. didn't know that (apparently that stuff was discussed somewhere else). Remi_Woler: I guess this should be easy to reproduce? I mean I would just run jail blablablalb albal and then I shouldn't be able to resolve dns names? (yeah ok, should prepare the 'new root' environment a bit a la chroot).. If so, then I guess I'll give it a try in the next few days (perhaps today). |

Oh and.. where is the DNS server from /etc/resolv.conf? On localhost? LAN? |

Yes, it is kinda easy to reproduce, but see jail as the real jails aka virtual servers. It is a built in function of freebsd, but requires some set-up. It does it with every DNS server, i tried allready about 50 of them, 1 of them being local, 1 being on the host, and every one i could find somewhere or was offered to me. |

I guess no one ever posted this here, but it seems the problem is FreeBSD, not Unreal: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=26506 So there is really nothing that we can do about it other than yell at the FreeBSD people... |
