Summary0002060: IRCD locks up on /rehash
DescriptionServer runs fine, no problems. If I do a rehash, though, the server locks up and has to be killed via taskmanager (It's the 'doze version). When run again, it loads up fine. Obviously, because it's loading, it can't be a problem with the config. If it was, it wouldn't load up again. We get the message that the server is re-hashing... The nothing. No response from the server at all.
Steps To ReproduceOper up and /rehash.
3rd party modulesNone.

Sure it could be a problem with the config. The rehash code is different than the regular code. Are you using remote includes at all?

Also, is this the SSL or non-SSL version?

If it was on *NIX then I would just say.. attach a debugger ("gdb `cat ircd.pid`" + "bt") and we would see exactly where it is hanging/looping, could even single step and stuff and paste all results here ;).
BUT... windows!!! argh! In that case if you have MSVC + source (in c:\dev\unreal3.2) you could do something very similar (although I hate the lack of some sort of gdb-alike command line / lack of 'pastability'.. unless I missed something) :p.

Well you don't need MSVC, MS has a free little package called "Debugging Tools for Windows" You can find the latest version at http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/installx86.mspx (10.3MB)

One of the tools in this package is called "WinDbg." That is the debugger you're going to want to use.

After installing it, run Unreal just like you would normally do. Now launch WinDbg. Go to File | Attach to a Process and choose WIRCD.EXE and click OK.

At this point, Unreal will "freeze." Go to Debug | Go (this will unfreeze it). Now connect to your server like normal, oper up, and do a /rehash. Now if what you say is true, Unreal should freeze up again. Go to Debug | Break. Now go to View | Callstack. At the top of that window there is a button that says "Source" click that, also click "Arg Types" and the "Frame Nums" buttons.

Now, in the Callstack window, next to the X button there should be some other little button that looks kind of like a bunch of stacked windows. Click that and choose "Copy stack to clipboard." Then paste the results here.

Hopefully that will allow us to get the information that Syzop was talking about.

If you have MSVC of course, feel free to use it, the debugger in MSVC is far more powerful.

Okay.. WIll do that (Just woke up, ugh)... I have a debugger already (I'm a Software programmer). I'll run it through and get you the results. As a side note, I'm not certain whether it's SSL or not.. How do I find otu for sure?

I'm not using any includes, as far as I'm aware. It's basically the standard config file (Example.conf) with the required O:Lines, links and server settings changed to my domain.

Will paste the info in a little while.

Thanks.

Okay, wouldn't you know it... With the debugger running, I've rehashed twice with no crash. Ugh... I can think of only one reason, but I can't remember for sure if it was in effect at the time. Presently, one of my linked servers is offline, so I'm left with only my hub and my services... Could a linked server be the cause of this? The links works fine, and connects fine. I'll get linked up again later tonight when the other server comes back online, and i'll try again. Will let you know.

I guess we'll just have to assume that you can't reproduce it now anymore?
