Summary0002250: local dns zone resolve failure
DescriptionYou can see, that name and ip resolving is ok, but server doesn't put host name instead of ip address:
D:\>nslookup
Default Server: ircserv.net1
Address: 192.168.1.100

> wax.net1
Server: ircserv.net1
Address: 192.168.1.100

Name: wax.net1
Address: 192.168.1.60

> 192.168.1.60
Server: ircserv.net1
Address: 192.168.1.100

Name: wax.net1
Address: 192.168.1.60


What we have with hybrid server:
Server puts host name instead of ip address
Whois report for kreol (Kreol)
Address: [email protected]
And resolves ip and name
DNS: resolving kreol.net1...
DNS: resolved kreol.net1 to 192.168.1.32
DNS: resolving 192.168.1.32...
DNS: resolved 192.168.1.32 to kreol.net1


And that's what we have on unreal server
DNS: resolving 192.168.1.60...
resolved 192.168.1.60 to wax.net1
DNS: resolving wax.net1
DNS: resolved wax.net1 to 192.168.1.60

You can see, that name and ip resolving is ok, but server doesn't put host name instead of ip address

When previous zone name was "net-one-lan" everything was fine. But when you connect to server it sends such message
Local host: wax.net (unable to resolve)
or:
Local host: trojan.net (213.130.63.233)
Dns is set up correctly, that's why i think, that trouble is in unreal server.
Steps To Reproducepart of named.conf:

 Does '/quote dns i' show the correct information (it's taken from /etc/resolv.conf).. If not, did you perhaps modify /etc/resolv.conf without restarting the ircd?

*edit* oh and also try '/quote dns c' (=clear dns cache) and then connecting */edit*

ircd restarted several times after last resolv.conf modification.

Can you connect another user, oper up, then do /mode YOURNICK +s +j? Perhaps that will expose the error message that can show us what is going on.

Try the following (with 2 clients, 1 stays connected, 1 does the connect thingy):
/quote dns
[now connect another client, NO other clients/servers/.. should (try to) connect during this time]
/quote dns

and paste the results of both quote dns thingies, they will contain some clues of what is going on.

Also, I presume you are not using set::options::dont-resolve or allow::options::useip? Just had to ask ;)

Judging from the information provided I can say:
- Queries were sent for both reverse dns and hostnames
- Responses were received for both of them
- This means ip->host works, but presumably something is going wrong with resolving host->ip.

I suppose the best way to find this out is recompile the IRCd in debugmode. You can do this by editting include/config.h and change:
/* #undef DEBUGMODE */
to
#define DEBUGMODE
and then run: make clean; make

Then, you should start the ircd with 'src/ircd -x 99', and connect 1 client and quit, and then killall -15 ircd or something...
debug.log should then have been created with loads of info, I suggest mailing it to me at [email protected].

Just for the record:
I got the debug results but they didn't help much (all seemed fine), then requested shell access but since the box is not connected to the Internet that was not possible.
I don't think we will be able to resolve this bug then.
