| Summary | 0002660: Delay /list | ||||
| Description | perhaps you could add somethink for /list that works as set::anti-spam-quit-message-time so most spamdrones will fail to get the biggest channels on connect, and then join them? | ||||
| 3rd party modules | |||||
Idly curiosity: would it not be better to simply utilize the spamfilter to zap them? Aside from that, realize that this can be annoying for users who join your network, not to mention easy to get around with spambots (they can just delay X minutes before listing). |
sure, but e.g. we have 400-500 bots from dynips at the moment... yeah spamfilter glines them, fine. but its more annoying see those drone join/part the channels. so just dont let them get the channel list would prevent this, too. |
If you don't want drones to get channel lists, you can temporarily set +s on all the channels, and warn users setting -s will attract spammers. When the spammers get no channels in a list, they will leave. Then all you need to worry about are the spam bots that have a preset list of channels to spam (usually someone on the network already is controlling them). |

This could also be done as a module - we've got it done over on ChatSpike. |

I might look into doing something about this over the next few days. Watch this space. |
Done it this morning, now just got to find a way to get it online :P. |

It didn't work for me either when I got your mail, but 12h later or so it did. |

mod looks fine btw. feel free to submit ;) I'm going to mark this as closed, this is not something I think should be in core unrealircd, or at least that is my current position. Many people when coming to a new network or checking things out do /list EXACTLY in the first 2 minutes (or whatever). IMHO it's a bad idea to cripple everything down because of spammers. For the people that insist, seeing it as a module sounds like a good idea :). |
