Summary | 0005865: Hiddenhost-prefix not used in some occasions
Description | I've notice the following: 1) If we set the set::cloak-method variable to ip (the XXX.YYY.ZZZ.IP style), then the hiddenhost-prefix is ignored 2) If the hostname/ip doesn't resolve, the XXX.YYY.ZZZ.IP style is used and therefore the set::hiddenhost-prefix is ignored. Bug or feature? Cheers!

Yeah it is like that for 20+ years and not like a mistake, I don't think it's wrong or anything. We simply use the .IP format for ip addresses indeed. Changing it would also break all the current cloaking and.. for what, really. The format of cloaked IP addresses is documented at https://www.unrealircd.org/docs/Cloaking#Cloaked_IP_addresses |
