Summary | 0006243: Suggestion: Different management of message tags
Description | In practice, at the moment, to create a client message tag, I am forced to create a module for unrealircd, whereas the ircv3 protocol has added client message tags, precisely to streamline the addition of client-side functionality, so I would like an option that allows us to allow all client message tags and then each client filters them as it pleases, without unrealircd modules.

Hi Rohn, you are right, this is not well explained in the documentation, and certainly not the "why", why we specifically made things this way. I have now created a FAQ entry (the very last one) here: https://www.unrealircd.org/docs/FAQ#How_can_I_allow_other_message_tags.3F and I'll link it from the general Message tags article on the wiki. |
|
I've updated the FAQ entry a bit to be more explicit with the examples of the two tags that we already allow and why they are no problem. Also mentioned the links to 3rd party modules and the ability to request support for client tags if they have a formal spec and are deemed to be useful for the general audience that uses UnrealIRCd. We only had this question 3 times past 5 years or so i think, but it's worth including it in the FAQ as to explaining the "why" and providing pointers to like 3rd party mods, so thanks for bringing that up. |
