Summary0000982: removing the scan mod did really destroy my network
DescriptionHi

well it is not really a bug, but over the past week we have enjoyed 35000 proxies in our network and more continues to enter every second, as soon as they realized we switched to b16.

We installed BOPM but this DOES NOT solve the problem since:
1) they connect
2) the list of glines is up to 25000 lines right now, which is crazy because it delays and lags everything
3) bopm does work slowly and lot of times skip them

we asked all admins to go back to b15 and unfortunately if this continues like this we would have to move back to irc undernet. Guys we really need to block the connection BEFORE peopl enter the irc. The proxy detect should be in the connection function and either the mod should be included back or add a bopm module to check that inmediately but pleaseeeee do something about this.

i'm agree with him, the Scan Modules is a very interesting feature and really better than BOPM, why don't let as disabled as trottling support in beta15 ?

I personally don't run a big network, but I've heard very few complains about BOPM... quite the opposite, most big nets _use_ BOPM :)

Also AFAIK the unreal scanner wasn't called pre-connect (at least I notice the hook HOOKTYPE_LOCAL_CONNECT) so the only difference with BOPM is sending/receiving the connect notice...
Since you are so concerned about speed in blocking out proxies, I assume you have BOPM running at _localhost_.. so how could this increase the delay so much?
What kind of delay are we talking about (how many seconds)??

Another thing, don't know if it's related and/or if your network is "on the list" but there's a nice virus called "Fizzer": http://www.europe.f-secure.com/v-descs/fizzer.shtml

Looks from #unreal-support like you found out BOPM isn't working correctly (not glining)? I guess..
